Virginia High slipped past non-district rival Abingdon with a 1-0 win.
The Bearcats posted a run off their only hit in the first inning and
pitcher Robbie Stout needed nothing more. Stout worked the entire seven
innings on the mound giving up six hits and striking out eight Falcon
batters. Stout also picked off a pair of runners to help his own cause.
Virginia High's Brandon Arnold got the Bearcats' only hit in the first
inning, advanced to second on a walk to Brent Davenport and moved to
third on a wild pitch. Arnold then scored the only run of the game on a
slow grounder to second by Brent Davenport. Virginia High next faces
Gate City in a home district match-up on Friday night.
