VHS claws back for 8-7 win over Gate City

Murray comes up big in final inning

4/18/08 Josh Murray crushed a crucial double to lead off the top of the seventh inning to help the Bearcats come from behind to take an 8-7 Clinch Mountain District win over Gate City. VHS jumped out to what appeared to be a comfortable 6-1 lead over the Blue Devils but four errors and a hit batter extended the fifth inning and the Bearcats found themselves in a 6-6 ballgame. Gate City pushed another run across in the bottom of the sixth to force the Bearcats to pull a come from behind win in the seventh. Murray started things off with the double, stole third on Brent Davenport's fake bunt and then scored on Davenport's grounder. Max Katelouzos, in to run in place of Davenport, scored the go ahead run on Dylan Sullins' single. Kalen Mabe worked five and a third innings but the win went to reliever Sullins. Mabe was only tagged for one earned run with the Bearcats committing seven errors behind him.  Davenport finished up two for four at the plate as well as Josh Arnold and Casey Stallard. Tyler Arnold belted a hard hit triple and Robbie Stout contributed a double. VHS will face rival Abingdon at Devault Stadium on Saturday night in a non-district contest.
