Bearcats win Clinch Mountain District Tournament

5/29/10 Virginia High added a Clinch Mountain District Tournament championship trophy to their collection with a 7-5 win over Gate City. Josh Paolucci pitched five innings of relief to claim the win allowing no runs and only three base hits. Gate City put a run on the board in the first inning and the Bearcats answered back with three of their own in the bottom half. The Blue Devils then took the lead in the second with four runs and Paolucci took over in the third to keep teh Bearcats within striking distance. VHS scored twice in the fourth to tie the score and two more in the fifth to take the lead for good. Dylan Sullins, Seth Davis and Dakota Katelouzos each had two hits for the Bearcats and Clint Chafin had a two RBI double. Virginia High will play at home against JJ Kelly in the opening round of the Region D tournament on Tuesday. The Bearcat JV team also claimed the Tournament championship with a 3-0 win over Gate City.
