VHS survives scare in state quarter-finals with eight inning 11-10 win

6/8/10 Virginia High survived a scare and fought off a determined Fort Chiswell team to take an 11-10 win in eight innings of the VHSL state quarter-finals. The Bearcats jumped out with a 5-0 lead after two innings and Fort Chiswell fought back for three of their own in the top of the third with three hits and a Bearcat error. VHS posted another run in their half but gave up three more in the fourth with a pair of errors, a triple and wild pitches. With the scored knotted up the Bearcats put up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-6 lead into the sixth. Fort Chiswell scored three runs in the sixth to once again tie the score at 9-9. Fort Chiswell scored in the eighth and put the Bearcats into a do or die situation. Dakota Katelouzos began the bottom of the eighth with a base hit and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony McCoy. Katelouzos scored on a base hit by Seth Davis to give the VHS team new life. Pinch runner Ryne Loggins stole second and scored the game winning run off a single by Dylan Sullins. Davis finished up the night with three hits and Clint Chafin also had three hits. Katelouzos, McCoy and Sullins each had two hits. Sullins started for the Bearcats on the mound and was relieved by Tyler Arnett in the sixth.
