Bearcats advance to VHSL State Championship game with 6-5 win in 10 innings

6/11/10 VHS overcame a three run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning and go n to defeat Chatham 6-5 in ten innings to advance to the VHSL State Championship game. Virginia High took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning with a two run homerun by Cody Read. But walks and errors in the fourth inning put the Bearcats down by a 3-2 margin. Going into the seventh the Bearcats still trailed by one run when Chatham scored twice more to increase their lead. With the season on the line, the Bearcats put a rally together and scored three runs to tie the score at 5-5. Relief pitcher Josh Paolucci pitched the next three extra innings holding Chatham scoreless and allowing two hits. In the bottom of the tenth, Josh Arnold reached first on an error. Courtesy runner Dale Stine stole second and then scored on Max Morris' chopper to short to win the game. Brandon Nave ended up with a double and a single while Morris and Dakota Katelouzos each had two hits. VHS will play in the championship game at Radford on Saturday morning at 10:00am.
