Virginia High opened up Clinch Mountain District play with an 8-5 win
over John Battle. A steady light rain and errors in the field made for
an ugly night for the Bearcats' first district game. VHS committed six
errors and John Battle contributed five of their own. The Bearcats held
an 8-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth before giving up a run
and then allowed four more in the seventh. Anthony McCoy belted a two
run homerun in the second and added an RBI double off the wall in the
fourth to finish with a two for three night at the plate. Jarred Tate
had a homerun in the fifth while Dakota Katelouzos and Dale Stine each
had two hits. Dylan Sullins was credited with the win and Tyler Arnett
worked the final three innings for the save. Virginia High will take on
Abingdon on Wednesday night at Devault Stadium.
